The Peace Palace is the seat of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the United Nations International Court of Justice, the Hague Academy of International Law, the Peace Palace Library and the Carnegie Foundation. In addition, the palace also regularly hosts various events on international law and politics. The goal of these organizations is to reach peaceful solutions for disputes between countries.
It is located in the northwest of the Zeeheldenkwartier district in the Center district of the municipality of The Hague.
The large tower is easily recognizable in the skyline of The Hague because of its height of 80 meters and the shape of its top -with a section wider than the trunk. Its silhouette is very distinctive with small bay towers appearing on two levels.
In 2014, the Peace Palace was placed on the European Heritage List for its importance to the history and culture of Europe. Four Dutch objects are on this list.
