An Open-billed Stork (Anastomus lamelligerus), related to the European Stork, stands in shallow water with its bill half submerged. The bird is foraging for food and has just caught a snail. The bird manipulates the snail with its beak to reach the edible meat. The warm hues of the water create a serene atmosphere. I photographed the stork just after sunrise in the Khwai River in Botswana.
