The Oostpoort at Delft is the only one of 8 city gates remaining from the city of Delft, in the Dutch province of South Holland.
The Oostpoort consists of a land gate, a water gate and a section of city wall and was fully restored in 1964.
The fortification wall on the north side and a statue of a guard above the gate recall the time when the Oostpoort was used to protect Delft.
When you walk or bike into downtown Delft from the highway side, this is one of the eye-catchers of your route.
The building itself is beautiful but also its location on the Oostsingel makes for a nice picture. When I lived in Delft I liked to sit near the gate on the grass or on a bench on the other side of the water.
For me this city gate is one of the most beautiful buildings in Delft and a must see if you make a city trip to Delft.
