Nippon Cargo Airlines' Boeing 747-8F.
Registration: JA16KZ.
A Boeing 747-8F of Nippon Cargo Airlines (JA16KZ) taxis to the cargo terminals at Schiphol Airport on 18 December 2016.
The Boeing 747-8 is the successor to the Boeing 747-400 and the latest version of the Jumbo Jet developed by Boeing. This latest further development of the 747 family was launched in 2005. Boeing offered both a passenger variant under the name 747-8i (Intercontinental) and a cargo version, the 747-8F (Freighter).
Only Lufthansa, Air China and Korean Air went for the passenger version. The counter for the 747-8i did not reach 50 units.
The freighter version proved a lot more popular: Atlas Air, AirBridgeCargo, NCA, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific, UPS and Silkway all together purchased 106 units. Number 100 was delivered in October 2021 to UPS, which ordered 29.
The Boeing 747-8F has a capacity of 140 tonnes and can fly over 8,100 kilometres with a full load. In October 2022, the very last Boeing 747 will be delivered, to Atlas Air. This will mark the definitive end of production of the legendary 747.
