An NH90 military helicopter during a beautiful sunset. The NH90 is a twin-engine, multi-purpose helicopter. The helicopter was developed in response to NATO's need for a military helicopter that can operate over both land and sea. The NH90 was developed, built and is supported by NHIndustries, a partnership (joint venture) between Leonardo (formerly Agusta Westland), Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter) and Fokker. The NH90 has been developed in two variants: the Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) and the NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH). However, many of the armed forces have specific requirements for their version of the NH90. These specific requirements have led to the basic variant now becoming a customised configuration. Examples of specific modifications include the engines, radios, optional kits and other equipment.
