About ‘Morning glow over the Fire Mountains’ by Walter G. Allgöwer

Like a sleeping primordial being of fire and ash, the volcanic soul of Lanzarote awakens in the first light of day. The morning sun breaks through the deep, almost menacing blue of the sky and pours liquid gold over the barren slopes of Timanfaya National Park. Amidst this immense silence, the fire mountains glow in a dramatic spectacle of glowing red, warm ochre and ash-grey shadows.
It is a landscape that tells of the earth’s untamed primal power. The solidified lava flows in the foreground still lie in deep darkness, whilst the majestic crater rims already glow in the pale spotlight of dawn. Here, in the far west of Europe, the boundaries between Earth and the cosmos blur; one feels as though on a distant, undiscovered planet.
Every inch of this volcanic rock breathes the memory of the searing inferno of centuries past. Yet in this magical moment of sunrise, there is no destruction, but a sublime, almost reverent stillness. A silent monument to creation, reminding us of how beautiful and untameable our Earth is at its very core.
