About "Middle finger"

About the artwork

In the Paushuize in Utrecht, on the corner of the Kromme Nieuwegracht and Achter Sint Pieter, hangs this ornament. It comes from 1633 and was installed by the then occupant of the building, Daniel d'Ablaing. It sits in an inconspicuous place: directly above the gate on the inside, so that you can't see it from the outside and you can't see it when you enter. You really need to turn around and look up.
The saying is: "Non omne quod miniatur ferit" , which actually means "Not everything that threatens affects"
The reason for this ornament was that Daniel d'Ablaing lived a rather indecent and frivolous life for this time. I couldn't find what that life was. Objections from the surrounding area he waved away, and several lawsuits were brought against him.
As a reaction d'Ablaing applied this ornament. Just a middle finger to the area. Then d'Ablaing was exiled in 1643 and sold his house to the dean of St. Peter, Jacob van Asch van Wijk. And he just left this ornament as it was.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
