This photographic image shows the medieval castle of the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour in the southwest of France. It was taken in August 2017 with the Nikon D90 during my photo and holiday trip through south-western France (ROCAMADOUR is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). France is famous for its many well-preserved medieval villages - and Rocamadour is definitely one of the most beautiful! The location alone on a steep limestone cliff leaves the visitor speechless, simply pure magic! In addition, the village has been an important place of pilgrimage for over 1,000 years: even today, countless pilgrims, but also tourists, find their way to picturesque Rocamadour every year. With about 600 inhabitants, Rocamadour is not exactly large, but it has plenty of sights to offer. Moreover, the village extends over three different levels. On the lowest level is the historic village centre, on the middle level, the sacred level, are seven different churches and on the upper level is the Château de Rocamadour. The historic centre of Rocamadour is a real eye-catcher. It captivates with its numerous medieval houses and lets you immerse yourself in a bygone age. In a unique atmosphere with lots of magic, you can stroll through the narrow streets and let the medieval flair take effect on you.
The charming Château de Rocamadour is enthroned at the top of the limestone cliff. It was erected in the 14th century and built directly on the slope of the cliff. A fantastic location offers a breathtaking, gigantic view of the surroundings and the village. The impressive, magical medieval motif is a real eye-catcher and is perfect for hanging in living rooms and lounges, especially for France lovers and architecture freaks.
