Every year toads undertake a dangerous journey over land to the water where they were born in order to reproduce. The males crawl on the backs of the females and hold them tightly until they start laying eggs. The meter-long egg strings are deposited on branches and waterplants. Toads are amphibians and occasionally need to go to the water surface to breathe. Here the female seems to want to go up, but she's stuck in her own egg strings. Fortunately this was not the case.
