Of all the harriers in the Netherlands, the marsh harrier is by far the most common. It is a real marsh bird, with a preference for reed lands. Locally, if the density of mice is high, the species can also occupy drier habitats such as arable land. Of the three species, the marsh harrier breeds and hunts in the wettest and highest vegetation.
