The Marken Lighthouse, also known as Paard van Marken (Dutch for "Horse of Marken"), is a historic lighthouse on the Marken Peninsula in North-Holland. It is one of the most iconic lighthouses in The Netherlands. The lighthouse has been operational since 1839, replacing an earlier light structure. The light guides ships navigating the Markermeer, a large lake formed from the former Zuiderzee. Marken was originally an island before being connected to the mainland by a dike in 1957.
