Machu Picchu is a ruined city of the Incas in Peru. In the 16th century Machu Picchu was abandoned to be rediscovered in 1866. Much of the Inca civilization can still be found in the ruins. Administratively, Machupicchu is a distrito of the province of Urubamba in the Cusco region of Peru.
