About ‘Love is in the air’ by Rini Kools

A slightly edited image of two razorbills renewing and strengthening their bond at the start of the breeding season. This species is monogamous, meaning that once a mate has been chosen, the birds remain a breeding pair for the rest of their lives.
The razorbill is a seabird with a black head and back and a white underside. It has a tall beak, which is compressed in width.
The breeding season begins in May or June, depending on the temperature of the surface seawater. The female lays a single egg and has only one clutch per year. The egg is incubated for 35–37 days, with both the female and the male taking turns. The bird breeds in (sometimes mixed) colonies of around 100 to as many as thousands of birds.
