Lot and his daughters, Hendrick Goltzius, 1616 oil on canvas, h 140cm × w 204cm. God decides to destroy the sinful city of Sodom. He spares only the righteous Lot and his family. Because Lot's daughters are afraid they will remain childless - after all, all men have perished - they get their father drunk and seduce him. Goltzius effectively contrasts old Lot's sunburnt skin with that of his two daughters.
