Stakkholtsgjá (also known as Stakkholts) is an enormous and fabulously beautiful gorge in the Thorsmork (Þórsmörk) valley in the Icelandic highlands. The gorge is approximately 100 metres deep and two kilometres long.

Right at the entrance, the gorge is surrounded by massive palagonite cliffs that are a hundred metres high.…
