Here in Loggos, the lantern column on the unspoilt idyllic Greek island of Paxos still stands proudly. The ochre-coloured column has served as a taxi and bus stand for years. The island of Paxos where I lost my heart since 1988 to its beautiful olive groves, cypress trees, white "pebble" beaches, azure-aqua-coloured seawater-filled bays, high cliffs, sea caves and sweet Greek villages. The delicious smell of olive wood and the salty Ionian Sea.
An island where ordinary cosy families and the world-famous jet set celebrate their summer holidays. Mundane yet just simple and local. No mass culture here. This beautiful work portrays the island of Paxos at its best. Dreaming away and musing on the pleasantly warm summer sun and the lovely Greek atmosphere. A nice painting in which the factory is still working and the boats are still made of wood. Despite the perspective not being quite right, this is still an attractive painting.
