The original 50 cm statue of the little princess (Kiskirálylány) on the railings of the Danube promenade in Budapest, Hungary was made by László Marton (1925-2008) Munkácsy and Kossuth prize-winning sculptor in 1972.
The artist was inspired by his eldest daughter, born from his first marriage. She often played in the Tabán in a princess costume and a crown made from her father's newspapers, and at home she pretended her bathrobes were a cloak. This sculpture inspired her father, the artist, to make this little statue.
László Marton writes: "Évike born from my first marriage, when I was 5 years old, played in a small princess costume in the playground Tabán. As soon as I saw it, I had the subject. With the title "Little Princess" I sculpted it. It was also placed in an elegant location on the Danube promenade and became a symbol of Budapest.
