About ‘Lines of the wind’ by Peter Kuipers

This photograph captures the dunes on Nes beach at a moment when light, wind and landscape come together perfectly. The fine lines in the sand tell the story of the wind, which has free rein here. The low sunlight beautifully reveals the textures and bathes the dune landscape in a warm golden glow. At the same time, the cool tones in the shadows provide a lovely contrast, giving the image a sense of calm and depth.

What inspired me in this moment was the simplicity of nature. No hustle and bustle, no distractions, just the silence of the island and the shapes constantly changing with the wind. Whilst taking the photograph, I was particularly struck by how each dune seemed to have its own character. The flowing lines and soft transitions give the image an almost painterly quality.

For this composition, I deliberately chose a low vantage point, so that the patterns in the sand stand out particularly strongly and the viewer is, as it were, drawn into the landscape. It is precisely these details that make this work special. In an interior, this photograph brings a sense of space, tranquillity and warmth. The natural colour palette makes the work timeless and suitable for both modern and cosy, tranquil interior styles.
