The Maasvlaktestrand or Slufterstrand is a wide sandy beach on the Maasvlakte created in 1987 along the Slufter, a large-scale depot for the storage of dredging. The beach is popular among water sports enthusiasts, who can use it all year round. Dogs are also allowed all year round. It is also a nudist beach. The beach can be reached from Rotterdam via the A15/N15. From August 2009 to early 2012 it was "Slufterstrand" closed due to the construction of the Second Maasvlakte. The new recreational beach became publicly accessible in the spring of 2012. Three spacious parking facilities have been constructed. Artist Jan Konings designed a beach crossing consisting of three staircases (with varying heights) that lead to the recreational beach of Maasvlakte 2.
