About ‘Lagavulin in silence and light, on the Scottish coast’ by Thijs Schouten

During my trip through Scotland, I visited the Lagavulin distillery, a place that had long been on my list. The tranquillity, the smell of peat, the light gliding across the water, everything made sense. When I later edited the photo at home, I decided to convert it to a style that suited that mood: bright surfaces, long shadows, and an almost cinematic sense of stillness. The result feels like a painting in which space, light and emptiness together tell a story. The white-plastered walls of the distillery stand out brightly against the sky, the water reflects softly, and the composition is simple but charged. For me, this is a tribute to the place, to the landscape, as well as to the feeling you have there, as if you are momentarily out of time.
