La Jument, France's most famous lighthouse (47 metres high). The lighthouse, built on a rock of the same name, stands near the island of Ouessant off the Breton coast in the Atlantic Ocean. Some naval battles were also fought here. Brittany's coast is also notorious among sailors, with strong currents along the rocky coast and frequent sea fog. The construction of this lighthouse took from 1904 to 1911. The lighthouse became world famous when the photographer Jean Guichard flew past it and took shots of high waves crashing against the tower.
