The konik horse is native to Poland. There it was bred as a replacement for its extinct ancestor, the tarpan. Konik horses are used as wild grazers in nature reserves. Since the horses live in groups, they can easily keep the vegetation in large areas short (source: natuurpunt.be).
During a walk through the Oostvaardersplassen this young stallion curiously came to see what I was doing.
The stallion is still in his winter coat, a beautiful combination with the color of the reeds.
