Normally you see them as a souvenir, for sale for a few euros at most tourist shops. Saske van der Eerden, on the other hand, provided a variant of about ten metres high.
The relatively large statues are placed along the North Sea Canal at the crossing of the Hempont. That place is also the end point of the (Nieuwe) Hemweg. The statues are along the Ankerweg. The (Nieuwe) Hemweg is part of an express bike route between the centres of Amsterdam and Zaandam, which crosses the ferry.
The images weigh around 6700 kilograms. It took six months to manufacture them. From first idea to realization took almost two years. The sculptures look like Delft blue but are made of a steel frame with EPS (expanded polystyrene) with an epoxy coating with anti-graffiti and fire-retardant fabric.
