The windmills of Kinderdijk concern nineteen mills in the northwest of the Alblasserwaard, a region in the province of Zuid-Holland. Although they are referred to as belonging to the village of Kinderdijk (municipality of Molenlanden), one mill is located just outside (De Blokker), in the municipality of Alblasserdam, which are two mills and a major (also international) tourist attraction. They have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997 and the area is also a protected village scene. The mill rows can only be visited on foot or by bike. The mills near Kinderdijk were built at the end of the fifteenth century, but the present mills almost all date from 1738 and 1740.
