The Dutch word 'Kietvitsbloem' has to do with the resemblance of the closed flower to a Kievitseitje and because this flower blooms when the lapwings come out of their winter quarters in April/May. The lapwing flower originates from Afghanistan and was brought to Vienna from Constantinople in 1575. A beautiful appearance as an announcement of a new season in spring! Especially with the first sunlight in the calyx!
