Coloured pencil of a bird and water lilies. inspired by the Japanese prints Vincent van Gogh collected. He used these prints as inspiration for his paintings. The Japanese prints were printed with wood blocks. For each print, several wood colour blocks were made by the wood block cutter . Each block was then coated with a different colour of pigment, and by printing the blocks on the paper to be printed one after the other exactly on the drawing, the print was created. I used coloured pencils here, and made an outline with a black ink pen. Lots of different layers of colour on top of each other, creating depth. A completely different technique and medium than was used by the printers in Japan and by Vincent van Gogh. Van Gogh painted with oil paint. It's very nice to see what you can do with water colours or also with another medium in order to give your own impression.
