The Death Valley National Park is located in the Mojave Desert and is the driest national park in the USA. It is located southeast of the Sierra Nevada, mostly on the territory of California and a smaller part in Nevada. The region is a hot spot.
The lowest point of the valley is 85.95 metres below sea level. There are two main valleys within the park, Death Valley and Panamint Valley. Both valleys are a few million years old. Death Valley is surrounded by several mountains, the highest mountain range is the Panamint Range with the 3366 m high Telescope Peak. In 1933 Death Valley was declared a National Monument. In 1994 it was, strongly extended, upgraded to a National Park. A small enclave, Devil's Hole further east in Nevada near the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Preserve, is also part of the park. The whole reserve belongs to the Mojave and Colorado Deserts UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, which was established in 1984.
Death Valley National Park is an American national park that straddles the California-Nevada border, east of the Sierra Nevada. The park boundaries include Death Valley, the northern section of Panamint Valley, the southern section of Eureka Valley, and most of Saline Valley.
