In the middle of the rolling hills of the Kyffhäuserkreis district, in an inconspicuous meadow, a true natural wonder unfolds in May: countless wild orchids stretching towards the light in bright purple and pale pink. Year after year, I am magically drawn to this place - not just as a photographer, but as a person who marvels and pauses for thought. These delicate plants, which seem so fragile and yet are so resilient, speak of quiet beauty and the power of transience.
The light of the afternoon sun bathed the scenery in a warm golden colour that day. These two orchids suddenly stood out among the tall grass - like two siblings looking out at the world together. I sat down in the grass, listened to the buzzing of the insects and felt a deep sense of peace. No spectacle, no drama - just nature in its purest form.
The diversity of wild orchid species in this region is remarkable and makes the area a hotspot for botanists and nature photographers. What is particularly impressive is how delicate the flowers are - with patterns that appear to have been drawn by hand.
