Hotel in the desert

by Rita Fuchs

On the edge of the vast sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, in south-eastern Morocco, lies an oasis like a precious secret of the Sahara. Here, golden dunes form a seemingly endless landscape of light and shadow. The warm wind carves gentle waves into the sand, making the dunes appear like a tranquil sea.
Amidst the towering sand mountains, a green strip of palm trees and lush vegetation rises unexpectedly. The oasis feels like a romantic retreat in the midst of the vastness of North Africa. Under the clear blue sky, the sun’s rays glint off the leaves of the date palms, whilst the silence of the desert envelops the surroundings in a special atmosphere.
As the sun slowly sinks lower, the sand dunes are transformed into a fascinating play of colours – gold, orange and red. Long shadows stretch across the fine sand, lending the landscape an almost fairy-tale beauty. In these moments, time seems to stand still.
The Erg Chebbi oasis combines the austere elegance of the Sahara with the vibrancy of the water and the flora. It is a place of tranquillity, longing and romance. Those who linger here experience the magic of the Moroccan desert in a unique way and take home unforgettable memories of one of Africa’s most beautiful landscapes.
