One of the most spectacular horseshoe-shaped bends in southern America is Horseshoe Bend, in the Colorado River. This gigantic bend formed a few miles south of Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam in millions of years old layers of Navajo Sandstone. Around and inside the bend are rock walls that rise more than 300 feet above the river. From Horseshoe Bend Overlook, situated on the edge of one of these cliffs, you have a magnificent view of the river and the surrounding area.
