The monastery is located roughly halfway between the present-day villages of Hanau-Wolfgang and Niederrodenbach, about 1.5 kilometres from the edge of each village. The extensive alluvial forest area of the Bulau gradually merges here into the front Spessart, which consists mainly of pine forest due to the sandy soils. To the south is the "Rote Lache" nature reserve, which probably got its name from the very numerous deposits of turf ice stone here. The area around the monastery is dotted with numerous larger and smaller pits, which presumably date back to the mining of the ore. It is not known when this happened. The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes runs around 750 metres to the west of the site. Today, the ruins are located in an idyllic wooded area not far from the Wolfgang forester's lodge.
