This ancient beech tree has had its most glorious years behind it, but is so eye-catching in its slow decay that I keep coming back to it. This time I went there in the midst of summer, a slight mist was in the pine tree woodland in the background and this helped set the right atmosphere for this magnificent tree with some old oak trees in the background. The foliage was still green but the ferns were already changing colour due to the drought of this particular summer. I opted to make this a high key image to give it a brighter and perhaps more inviting mood
