The inhabitants of the Hajar Mountains in Oman grow their fruit and vegetables on centuries-old terraces. Trees, bushes, grass and vegetables, sown or fully grown, irrigated or not, give each terrace its own green, brown or grey tint. If you look closely, you can see the channels of the irrigation system that makes this possible and guarantees a fair distribution of water. And do you see the little stairs to get from terrace to terrace? The steep slopes give the mountains their name: the Green Mountain, Jebel Akhdar.
