San Francisco, is one of my favorite destinations to travel to. There are so many beautiful spots in this area, all offering great photographic opportunities. One of them, of course, is the Golden Gate Bridge, hardly to be missed if you are in the area. This time I chose to go to Marshall's Beach, a great spot from where you have a good view of the bridge. It is always a delight to walk down the stairs to the beach and then see the ocean and the bridge.
As always, I am way too early, but that is because I want to take my time to enjoy the view and find the best place to set up my camera and tripod. For this composition, I chose to put a bit more distance between me and the Golden Gate Bridge and use a zoom lens to compress the image and get a nice balance between the bridge and the rocks in front of it.
After my setup, it is time to enjoy the sunset and wait for the good light. By now, the blue hour had started and it was during this time that I made this image. By opting for the longer exposure time, the ocean is silky smooth, contrasting with the giant rocks in it. What makes this image in my eyes is the balance between the deep blues of the evening and the reds of the Golden Gate Bridge that are nicely balanced in this photo.
Back home with a big smile on my face and with hopefully a set of good images. As always, I do the editing which I put a lot of time into at home in the Netherlands. Big screen, Wacom tablet and a nice cup of coffee and some nice music in the background puts me in the right mood to make it a nice set that will not look out of place on your wall at home or in the office.
