Go straight down from the Ponte 25 de Abril by Rob Rollenberg

The 25 de Abril Bridge in Lisbon is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge — same colour, same architect. At Pillar 7, one of the bridge piers in the Alcântara district, you can take a lift up to a viewing platform at a height of abou'n tachtig metres. Everyone there takes photos of the Tagus. I looked straight down.

What you see: the bridge’s red stay cables, and below them the road and the railway tracks running diagonally underneath. The diagonal lines of the tarmac, the rails and the cables criss-cross each other, with two trees and a few car's providing a sense of scale. It’s only at second glance that you realise just how high up you actually are.

Minimal editing: the red has been slightly enhanced, whilst the rest of the colours have been toned down to preserve the graphic quality. A photograph for those who’d rather have an abstract image of Lisbon on their wall than yet another view. A fear of heights is no obstacle — nobody falls on paper.
