About ‘Girl in white kimono, Breitner’
Girl in white kimono, George Hendrik Breitner, 1894 Inspired by Japanese prints, Breitner painted at least a dozen paintings of a girl in kimono around 1894. She always has a different pose and the kimono varies in colour. The eye-catcher here is the embroidered white silk kimono with the red trimmed sleeves and orange-coloured belt. The dreamy girl is 16-year-old Geesje Kwak, a hoe-den saleswoman and one of Breitner's regular models.Rijksmuseum Rights: CC0
