Eruption of the geyser in Iceland.
The Great Geysir is of the same significance for Iceland as the Old Faithful is for Yellowstone. It is a symbol for Iceland and is a natural wonder. The Strokkur is a geyser in the southwest of Iceland. A stone's throw away is Geysir, the geyser whose name was used to give this natural phenomenon a name. The Strokkur has regular eruptions every 4 to 8 minutes.
De Strokkur became active after an earthquake in 1789 and continued to erupt regularly for more than a hundred years. An earthquake in 1896 blocked the geyser's water supply, making it inactive. In 1963 the waterway was cleaned by the local population and since then the geyser has had regular eruptions.
The geyser is 23 metres deep. There the water has a temperature of 120°C, but due to the prevailing pressure the water does not boil. At a depth of 16 meters, the pressure is low enough, and the hot water can turn into a vapour form. This suddenly created vapour finds its way out, dragging the water column above it with it. An eruption is the result.
I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes. Travelling is my passion. I also like to occasionally apply in photoshop effects, or create new designs, thus creating digital art. Also art and culture in other countries have my interest. I created many albums in my shop: panoramas,.. Read more…
