It was a dark and stormy night ... and I was in the Monte Orlando Park shooting the Angioino - Aragonese Castle of Gaeta, a beautiful town in the province of Latina, 150 Km away from Rome.
This kind of image requires taking a number of differently exposed frames (with camera on a sturdy tripod) to capture all the dynamic range from deepest shadows to brightest highlights, which are then manually blended via luminosity masks. If done well, the result is natural and shows details both in shadows and highlights.
I love to shoot landscapes / cityscapes (very) early or late in the day and I am more than willing to forgo sleeping, and drive for hours just to be ready and capture a worthy image... Read more…
