The Valencia region of Spain is a true citrus region. To give you an idea, in 2022 there were about 94,000 hectares of orange trees, 65,000 hectares of tangerines and 15,000 hectares of lemon trees in the region. So many that I can't imagine.
This orange was hanging from an orange tree in an orchard in Olocau. A municipality northwest of Valencia where you find many citrus groves and small villages.
I couldn't resist the temptation to stop and walk into an orchard. It was January and quite chilly. The ground and trees were still damp from the light snow that had fallen, giving melted droplets on the leaves and fruit.
The bright orange oranges felt as if they did not belong there. Cheerful and distant in a season when everything else was becoming bare, silent and grey. And as we walked around there, I saw how beautiful and perfect oranges actually are. Beautifully round and orange, with perfect skin and standing out beautifully against the green leaves of the tree. I resisted the temptation to pick an orange, photographing it was enough.
