The Ford Taunus 12M P4 (P4 = fourth new passenger car construction of the Ford plants in Cologne after the World War) was designed at that time as a competition to the VW Beetle 1200 in the USA. The 12 stood for cubic capacity in the type designation and M for Meisterstück. And it was the first Ford with front-wheel drive!
The Ford 12M was available as a saloon, estate or panel van, the coupé from August 1963 onwards, with front disc brakes instead of drum brakes being fitted from model year 1965 onwards. The production period was from 1962 to 1966.
