The Portuguese island of Madeira is home to the largest laurel forest in the world. The area is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The laurel trees are partially covered with unique species of moss.
Due to the onshore wind, moist air is brought in by sea. The moist air is pushed up the mountains, where it forms mist. The trees are in dense fog for large parts of the day. This image was taken when there was a brief clearing.
