The term baroque angel came about through the strongly curved lines that are characteristic of the BMW 501/502 from every point of view. These swings were to be seen both in the steeply rising radiator grille with the probably largest BMW kidney ever built. This went in a huge, large curve in the hood, as well as in the then still laterally mounted and also very large, here especially the front fenders very well see. The front headlights, however, were already integrated into the fender. Chrome and trims on the outside of almost every part of the bodywork, that was already unique in the still young Federal Republic of Germany when the first sales brochure for the BMW 501 was published on 30 April 1951. However, the sales price was also unique, which kept the sales success in the newly founded republic from the beginning on a very low production level.
