On a quiet day in Bergen aan Zee, I was quietly watching a flock of starlings hiding in a small bush. And then it happened: in one fluid movement, the entire flock took off. I captured this special moment and deliberately converted it to black and white, to put the focus entirely on the movement, shape and rhythm of the birds.
I made the sky as light and even as possible, so the silhouettes of the starlings seem to float freely in space. You see them all in different poses: flapping, gliding, straight ahead - each with its own expression, but together in one flowing choreography.
