A smithy is the workshop of a blacksmith.
Traditionally, a forge has a blacksmith's fire, where the object to be worked on (usually iron) can be heated to red-hot temperatures, an anvil (for working the hot-fired object) and a workbench (for further working the piece of forging). One can also find all kinds of pliers of different shapes to hold the hot iron as well as a number of hammers of different shapes and weights.
In the forge fire, fuel (coal or charcoal) and additional oxygen (obtained by means of a bellows or a fan) are used to heat the object to be forged to over 1000°C.
