The rutting or mating season (estrus) is a period in which animals have an urge to mate. This is caused by hormonal changes in the body of the animal. The rutting season of a species starts with the female becoming fertile. The male reacts to this. In both male and female animals, changes in behavior, smell and appearance are often observed during the rutting season.
Male animals behave more aggressively due to an increased amount of testosterone in their blood, which makes them more capable and more inclined to compete with other males. Other males will approach and fight aggressively.
