Duisburg, in the heart of the Ruhr, the former blast furnace stands as an attraction, event location and public park. A wonderful mix of nature and industrial heritage. Maintaining this unwieldy park with lots of concrete and rusting iron is a chore, though. Wandering around among sporting teenagers, hikers and those interested, with or without a camera, you come across something raw at every corner. Also the climb to the 60-metre tower where you can literally touch the furnace that was heated up to 2000 degrees in high days. At the top, a splendid view of the surroundings where you can clearly distinguish the big factories still in operation. Imagine yourself in this train full of liquid metal in the bowl.
