History and culture
Eguisheim has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The village was originally protected by a double town wall and the castle of Egisheim House was central to the community. The boom in viticulture in the 16th century contributed to the development of the village, which is now known for its excellent wines13.
Eguisheim is unique for its circular structure. The streets run in concentric circles around the central square, making for a special walking experience. The outer ring, Rue du Rempart, offers beautiful views of the traditional half-timbered houses and flowers blooming everywhere24.
