The Maasvlakte Beach or Slufter Beach is a wide sandy beach on the Maasvlakte created in 1987 along the Slufter, a large-scale depot for the disposal of dredge. The beach is popular among water sports enthusiasts, who can use the beach all year round. Dogs are also allowed all year round. Furthermore, it is also a nude beach. The beach can be reached from Rotterdam via the A15/N15 motorway. From August 2009 to early 2012 the "Slufterstrand" was closed due to the construction of the Second Maasvlakte. In the spring of 2012 the new recreational beach became publicly accessible. Three spacious parking facilities have been constructed. Artist Jan Konings designed a beach crossing consisting of three stairways (with steps varying in height) leading to the Maasvlakte 2 recreational beach.
