Frans Hals (Antwerp, 1582/1583 - Haarlem, August 26, 1666) is considered one of the most important Old Dutch Masters. As far as is known, he worked all his life in Haarlem and became particularly famous for his lively and colorful militia paintings and depictions of contemporaries.
The fast painting touch of Hals, Rembrandt and other contemporaries was already seen as very progressive within Baroque painting at the time and already has the speed of later Impressionism (1860). Very special!
