About ‘Curious monkeys around a sacred statue’ by Frank Photos

This striking image captures an unexpected scene in the heart of the Su Muon pagoda on the island of Phu Quoc, where nature and spirituality seem to be in simple dialogue. A colourful statue, richly decorated with jewellery and traditional motifs, stands serenely amid dense, luxuriant vegetation. Two young monkeys have made the sacred space their own: one perches atop the golden headdress, calmly observing the surroundings, while the other rests on the statue's shoulder, creating a contrast that is both tender and surprising. The scene illustrates the harmonious cohabitation between local wildlife and spiritual sites, a characteristic of many Vietnamese temples integrated into their natural environment. The bright colours of the statue stand out magnificently against the deep green of the foliage, reinforcing the impression of a balance between human work and wildlife. This photograph tells a silent story of implicit respect and coexistence, where the sacred is not fixed but alive.
